Cebu City is its regional center. Originally, Cebu is derived on the old Cebuano word Zubu based on Antonio Pigafetta's account or Sibu, a shortened term for “sinibuyanghingpit,” which mean “the place for trading.” Hence before, Cebu or Sugbo, its ancient name, was a place of exchange.
